Today is the day to write your tomorrow

Every single one of us has the opportunity to live an ideal life where we can be the best version of ourselves.  Some may consciously direct every aspect of their existence, aiming for their ideal life, but mostly it is not something that we necessarily think about as we are so busy getting through the day. Many of us don’t take the time to take control of our lives. We don’t take control of what we are choosing to do with the time that we have at our disposal. This means that we are allowing life to happen to us by sitting on the side lines, rather than grabbing life by the reigns and taking control of our direction. We are all trying to do the best we can with the resources that we have but sometimes our days and weeks and, consequently, our lives become a habit dictated by commitments, schedules, alarms, work and responsibilities. As a result, time can run away from us.

Someone recently shared an amazing article with me called ‘Your Life in Weeks’ written by Tim Urban where by a calendar was produced on the number of weeks we have from birth to the age of 90. Seeing what life looks like broken up into weeks staring at me on one page was very sobering and confronting to say the least – our lives are fully countable and finite. Our time on earth is precious. We should be asking ourselves: “Am I making the most of my weeks?”; “Am I creating my ideal life for myself?”; “Am I doing what I want to be doing?”

Have a think about what your ideal life looks like, sounds like and feels like. It needs to be healthy and sustainable and you need to be prepared to live it and experience it every day. How do you spend your days? How do you spend your weeks? And how would you like to spend your days and weeks? Write it down. Write it in a calendar if you prefer. I always find that committing ideas and thoughts to paper always puts them in perspective. If you are doing something extremely different to your ideal life, it may be time to reflect and make some changes. If change is required, do it – be confident that doing what you are passionate about will allow you the opportunity to create the best version of you and will lead to your personal success. If you are mostly living your ideal life, congratulations! There will always be room for improvement so make sure that you are continually reflecting, evaluating and refining.

How you choose to live your life is up to you. Sometimes we don’t realise that we have choice, we feel like our hands are tied, but we can choose how we live our lives, what we do, the experiences we have, and the adventures we go on. Don’t feel locked in to what you are doing or not doing. Have a real think about how you are using up your weeks. Grab your life by the reigns and start to fill your weeks with the things that make you shine – your life can be whatever you want it to be, the choice is yours.
