INSIDE BEAUTY WITH KATE RITCHIE

BY RACHAEL MANNELL

She might be a successful actress and radio announcer but new mum to daughter Mae, Kate Ritchie doesn’t get swept up in every luxury skincare fad.

I sat down with Kate to find out how being an actress instilled good skincare habits and the changes to her complexion during pregnancy.

Have you always cared for your skin or has that come later in life?

I feel that I have always cared for my skin mainly because I grew up on a television set surrounded by older actresses and makeup artists drumming good skincare into me! But I also feel that I cared for my skin because I WANTED to whereas now I care for my skin because I know I NEED to.

Have you noticed a change in your skin since having your daughter last year?

I have been blessed with generally good skin although it did turn on me quite a lot throughout my pregnancy. It is back to normal now thankfully and I have to say the only change would be tiredness and age!

You have recently become the face and body of QV, what difference do you notice in your skin using QV products?

I actually discovered QV before they discovered me so I didn’t need any convincing when it came to jumping on board! Since using their products the greatest improvement is that my skin feels much more hydrated and I have no doubt that is because QV is much more gentle on my skin than products I have used in the past and has wonderful levels of glycerin that my skin just laps up. The fact that QV was originally developed and continually recommended for people and children with sensitive skin issues tells me that it is going to be kind to my skin too. Making me feel clean and nourished without stripping away all of what my skin needs day to day.

Do you have a favourite product from the range?

At the moment it is most definitely the QV Intensive Moisturising Cleanser.

Are there QV product for kids and if so do you use them for your daughter’s bath time?

Yes, there is a wonderful QV range for our kids too and my daughter recognises them by the cute little yellow ducky on the bottles! I particularly like the QV Baby Bath Oil.

Can you take us through your morning routine?

In the shower I begin with the QV Face Gentle Cleanser and either the QV Gentle Wash or the Intensive Moisturising Cleanser. If I know I have time to blow-dry, my hair might even get a wash and if it’s a day I can wear a lazy bun I might even pop in a leave-in conditioner or Olaplex treatment. It’s usually then an all over lathering of QV Skin Lotion and chasing a toddler around the house to get a nappy on! The one thing I don’t leave the house without these days is an SPF. QV have a great one – QV Face Moisturising Day Cream SPF 30.

What are your go-to makeup products when pressed for time?

Charlotte Tilbury’s Wonder Glow followed by a splash of Armani’s Maestro Glow. A little blush and a coat of mascara.

Pressed for time/makeup free days are my favourite. It is important to give your skin a little breathing space.

What are your beauty indulgences?

I’ve recently had my eyebrows feathered thanks to a great woman called GEE which I am loving and it gives great structure to my face even on those makeup free days.

What’s the weirdest beauty treatment you’ve tried?

Does an egg and olive oil hair treatment as a teenager count? [laughs]
